The history of Wilder Mann
The first documented mentioned of this hotel was in 1653. For hundreds of years the building was used as a farm and served as the central rest stop in Steinach for numerous coachmen on difficult journeys to or from Italy, and also served as a place for horses pulling wagons to feed.
This is how it came to be that many coachmen spent a night or two at our hotel. In honour of this time of long ago and to pay a small tribute to the agriculture of the time, the outside walls are painted lovingly with detailed brushstrokes. In place of the horse stables of long ago, painted horses on the hotel’s wall look down from above and smile upon visitors as they pass by.
During the 20th century, tourism became the most important source of income for our establishment.
Both tradition and the signs of modern times will accompany you at every turn as you walk through the rooms of our hotel.
